The muses in Ancient Greek myths are goddesses, patronesses of poetry, the sciences, and the arts. According to one legend, the Muses are the source of the word "music. The Muses lived on the mountains of Helikon or Parnassus. Here the muses danced to the sound of the lyre, an ancient stringed instrument.
